From the mountain ranges in Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia, this coffee is sourced from a single estate made up of 136 acres of coffee cultivated under a canopy of guamo, carbonero, and other native shade trees. The estate has certifications from the Rainforest Alliance and the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center as well as an Organic certification through ECOCERT since 1999 due to using natural compost and coffee pulp fertilizers.
The Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center\'s Bird-Friendly certification ensures that the coffee is grown in an agro-forest where local wildlife (including migratory birds) can thrive! To be designated Bird Friendly, the farm must adhere to quality standards of shade cover, plant diversity (as opposed to a monoculture farm), canopy structure, leaf litter cover, and much more to ensure the protection of wildlife, but also carbon capture, water storage, soil conservation, organic pest control, and more!
Not only are you supporting immense ecological initiatives, funds from each sale go towards SMBC research to advance understanding of migratory bird preservation as well!
